Whether you’re bridesmaid or best man, it’s your responsibility to give the bride or groom the ultimate send off from singledom. We already have the perfect location with our luxury Marbella villas, but we also wanted to take this opportunity to share our top ten tips that are sure to secure your place as top event planner/best friend for life.
1. The guest list
Not sure where to start? This is a process that needs to be discussed with the Bride or Groom so you can establish numbers. Family, friends, in-laws, or all of the above - hosting a large trip isn’t a problem at DSV Collection Marbella. Our luxury villas sleep up to 20 people in 10 ensuite bedrooms…the perfect Hen house or Stag Den.
2. Group chat
Set up a Facebook or WhatsApp group to keep everyone in the loop and update each other with all the future hen and stag shenanigans. This is where numbers are confirmed and job roles can be assigned to spread the responsibility. You may want to exclude the bride/groom from this group or delete them once the important details are finalised – try and keep some secrets.
3. Save the date
Once you have numbers, the next step is to decide on a date. Will there be any other important events coming up? Will it clash with upcoming birthdays, anniversaries or holidays? Also, allow for at least 6 weeks before the big day. When you have an idea of when you’d like to go, give the lovely Barbara a call for availability and prices.
Remember…make sure all guests free up their schedules and book some well-deserved time off work.
4. Travel together
When booking the flights, it will make the travelling process a lot simpler if all guests are travelling together. Booking the flights together ensures everyone is flying with the same airline, from the same airport at the same time. More importantly it means that the stag / hen weekend can start earlier.
5. Travel checklist
Does everyone have valid passports? Does everyone have travel insurance? Does everyone have boarding passes? Drawing up a travel checklist as early as possible for all guests avoids any travel issues later on. We all have someone in our friendship group that is a little absent-minded and may need a reminder or two.
6. Plan activities
Planning activities in advance can save a lot of holiday time. This means when you arrive the fun and games can commence. Whether that’s cocktail making, a few games of golf, a pool party, or hosting a dinner party with a private chef in either one of the indoor or outdoor dining areas.
Or, if you would like to explore Marbella a little more then get your glad rags on and head to Puerto Banus, which is around 8 minutes away from the villas. With its incredible night life, restaurants and shopping, it’s the cherry on the cake.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: do not plan any heavy drinking the night before the flight home because you want to leave Marbella with only positive memories.
7. Accessories, props and decorations
This is where you can embarrass the future Bride or Groom or you can make the event classy and chic. The choice is yours…
In a group chat or over coffee, everyone can decide on some hen or stag accessories, props and decorations. This is where the responsibility can be distributed and everyone can contribute.
Remember…think about the size of the decorations to avoid awkward travel.
You may already have a travel checklist, but it might be worth writing up a packing checklist for guests as well. Bear in mind, the luggage space may be filled with hen and stag essentials, so it is important to see what else you need to put in your case to make sure everything fits.
Remember… if you are just taking hand luggage, do not to take any liquids over 100ml and bring a clear transparent bag.
9. Allow for some downtime
The getaway will be filled with lots of fun, games and celebrations, but it is suggested to allow for some downtime too. At our villas, there are lots of spaces to have a bit of ‘you’ time. When creating your schedule for the trip, try and fit in some time for all guests to fully unwind and refresh.
10. Have Fun!
